Next Generation WiFi Protocol “Wifi Halow”

Wi-Fi Alliance has named its next generation’s 802.11ah wireless protocol as “Wi-Fi HaLow”. This protocol is actually prepared for Internet of things (IOT). Inter of things includes intelligent house, intelligent connected cars, intelligent Medical equipment etc.
Moreover, devices used in Industry, agriculture, and Retail Market also getting benefits from Internet of things. Making of intelligent cities through Internet of things is also predicted. Instead of old and famous 802.11 protocol which works on 2.4 Giga Hz or 5 Giga Hz band, “802.11 ah” works on low frequency. Wi-Fi alliance permitted 900 MHz band for it. This new protocol is a collection of many qualities.

The new protocol Wi-Fi HaLow has the ability to work on a very large area while other protocols before Wi-Fi HaLow which work on 2.4 Giga Hz or 5 Giga Hz , work in the short area. The Wi-Fi routers which we are using can send signals almost around one hundred Kilometers in good circumstances means only one Wi-Fi router can work in a large part of a Football ground. On the other hand in good circumstances, Wi-Fi HaLow’s devices can spread their signals in 1 Kilometer area. Anyhow Wi-Fi alliance has fairly professed that Wi-Fi HaLow will work double than normal Wi-Fi.

Because Wi-Fi HaLow uses 900 MHz band that’s why it can cross over the hurdles like wall and furniture in the way of signals. Normal Wi-Fi signals can’t do this that’s why in offices and houses we can find such places where Wi-Fi signals can’t reach. Recently president Obama also mentioned such places in White House where Wi-Fi signals can’t reach. Such places are called “Dead Spot”. Wi-Fi HaLow’s only one access point will make finish such Dead Spots. Wi-Fi HaLow is especially important for Internet things devices which could be in any corner of the house.

Wi-Fi HaLow has one more quality, this technology can send data with at least speed of 150 Kbps on 1 or 2 MHz channels. That’s why IOT device has to make work its sensor for a limited time which saves energy and device also can run on battery for a long time. But it’s one harm is the low speed of transmission which is very disappointing. Wi-Fi HaLow’s speed will be 10 Mbps which is very low than any ordinary Wi-Fi. But as said before Wi-Fi HaLow’s main use is for IOT devices. This is also true that 10 Mbps speed is also enough for normal people to use. Necessary of high Wi-Fi speed is required at such place where users are in large number or high requirement of speed is more important.

It will take time to prepare and present in Market the device based on Wi-Fi HaLow. Wi-Fi alliance has determined standards for this, time is required to present them practically.
